Motherhood is one of the most incredible experiences in life but can also be the most challenging. If you are a mom, you know what I mean.

I love photographing a mother’s connection with her child. There’s no stronger bond that literally last a lifetime. I also know that moms can be so hard on themselves, always putting everyone else before their needs.

They take a million pictures to document their child’s every move and milestone. I can’t recount how many kids sessions I have photographed and in most instances when I tried to lure mom into some of the pictures, she declined because…she’s not wearing makeup, her hair needs to be done, she wants to loose some weight first…[insert any other excuse here]

I’m guilty of that, being behind the camera is comforting. ANYTHING your kids do is cute and worth remembering. Here’s the thing though, if mom is in none of the pictures, will she be remembered? Will we remember the impact she had on her kids, the love she had for them, the way she hugged her baby boy so tight, the way she made made her girls giggle like no other with a private joke. All this is worth remembering and worth capturing too. And we’ve got to do this not just for our children but for us. It’s part of your legacy, part of what you work so hard for every day to make sure you raise some incredible humans. Moms work so hard 365 days a year, no days off, no pay so I think they deserve more than just one special day a year.
